The materials used for sleeves are mainly:
PVC
Plastic with a shrink rate of 55/58% used for guaranteeing seals, in promotional packaging, and for multipacks and simply shaped containers.
Plastic with a shrink rate of 66% used for promotional packaging, 100% container coverage, and for difficult cases. The electric tunnel as well as the steam tunnel are appropriate for this material.
Due to new scientific developments, there is an increasing use of plastics with superior shrinkage rates for containers with unusual shapes.

PET
PET is the material with a shrinkage rate above 75%. Furthermore PET has the following characteristics:
- Thickness of between 40, 45, 50, 60 or 70 µ
- Low temperature shrinkage
- Substrates suitable for steam and heat shrink tunnel
- Good printability
- Good seaming properties

OPS
OPS has the following characteristics:
- Thickness of between 40, 50 and 60 µ
- Low density 1,02 g/cm3 (PVC, PET 1,31 g/cm3)
- Good gloss
- Moderate stiffness
- Good finishing (shrink stress, shrink speed)
- Particular requirement for storage conditions because of the high level of natural shrinkage (up to 5,5 % in 30 days)
- Suitable for steam tunnel

PLA
PLA (Polyactic Acid) - Environmentally friendly shrink film with the following characteristics:
- Corn-based as alternative to conventional shrink sleeve material
- Bio-degradable
- Good printability and shrinkage performance
- Non-toxic material
